On-set data acquisition is part of the tasks attributable to the VFX supervisor.
The on-set supervisor (or the person assigned to this task) is expected to be able to obtain all the photographic material that can be useful during the post-production process, either to extract textures from the set, to elaborate three-dimensional models through photogrammetry or HDRIs for LookDev.
Through this talk we will review in a global way those photographic techniques that are essential to be able to work professionally in a shooting. We will review the necessary equipment to start working, as well as the most demanded procedures.
After graduating in Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos I and studying a Master in digital cinematography at the ECAM; Fran Porras began his professional career in the visual effects industry in 2010 with Balada triste de trompeta. He worked for several years as a compositor and VFX editor before starting to work as a supervisor on set.
For the last three years he has been one of the supervisors at Dare Planet Studio, working on projects such as Campeones, Bunker and Sin Límites. He combines his work as a supervisor with directing and teaching, teaching composition in the Master's Degree in Postproduction at the CEU or for the Canary Islands government.
