This presentation will dive into the evolution and future of digital compositing at this time of technological transition, and the major paradigm shift it has undergone, evolving beyond its traditional roots and embracing new technologies that have transformed not only the way we work, but also what it is possible to create.
We will explore how digital compositing, initially focused on specific techniques, now embraces a fusion of disciplines from other fields such as 3D and simulation, machine learning or virtual production. This integration has challenged our traditional expectations and redefined the role of the compositing artist. In addition, we will examine how trends such as the use of universal standards or real-time rendering engines position digital compositing at the center of future changes in the industry.
The presentation will be a celebration of digital compositing as an art to study and replicate reality, and Adrian will offer his vision of where we are headed and how we can prepare to lead this change, in an era where flexibility and innovation will be key.
Adrián Pueyo is a visual effects supervisor with more than a decade of experience in the industry, mainly as a digital compositor specialized in film (ILM, MPC, Dneg, ScanlineVFX, Weta FX, Trixter). Currently, he leads the VFX and Virtual Production teams at Orca Studios. His role focuses on researching new workflows and tools and implementing new technologies in production, from on-set planning and shooting to post-production, scene capture, shooting workflows and color management. On ongoing projects, Adrian works closely with supervisors and crews to design methodologies and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and techniques.
Manipulating digital images since the age of 11, his passion for digital compositing and the development of VFX tools is complemented by an equally great passion for sharing it. For the past 5 years, Adrian has been leading a Master in Digital Compositing that he designed with U-Tad, in which he also teaches more than 200 hours of classes each year, in addition to organizing mentoring groups with senior artists and supervisors, and preparing pre-recorded online courses on compositing technique and development on his personal platform. Adrián's outreach activity on digital compositing is completed by managing his blog, the LinkedIn Foundry Nuke Compositors page, his educational YouTube channel, and the podcast on digital compositing of which he is a part, VFX Nomads.
