As the debut short film from Skydance Animation in partnership with Apple Original Films, there was a lot of attention on Blush to make a strong statement artistically and visually.
The characters in Blush presented some unique groom and animation / cfx challenges. Astronaut Dad is from Earth, with a thick head of lustrous hair. Alien Mom is from a faraway planet where their hair grows in beautiful ribbons. She also has some unusual abilities that emanate from her hair causing it to glow, float and pulse. Once they meet and have children (spoiler!), they each inherit something different from their parents.
This talk would cover the design, grooming, animation & simulation challenges of this diverse family.
Juan Luis Sanchez
Juan Luis Sanchez has been working in Animation and VFX for over two and a half decades in the USA, UK and Europe. He has helped create some of the most recognisable and beloved on-screen characters including Paddington in "Paddington", Yoda in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith", Dobby in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", the cursed pirates in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and Dr Ryan Stone, the accident-prone astronaut played by Sandra Bullock in "Gravity", recognised for Outstanding FX and Simulation in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture at the 2013 VES Awards.
In feature animation, he was part of the character creation team on Paramount Animation´s Wonder Park and Skydance Animation´s Luck. He is currently working as VFX Supervisor on Skydance Animation Madrid's third feature.
Rocío Pelarda
Rocío Pelarda did the Advertising and PPRR Bachelor degree in Complutense University. After working some time in advertising, she started her career in animation industry with the feature film Planet 51 in Ilion Animation Studios, where she worked in sets and props department. After that, she started to work in cfx department for the same project.
Afterwards, she worked in other companies as Lightbox Entertainment, Nu Boyana and Barajoung Dubai, for films like Tadeo Jones I and II, Capture the flag, Mortadelo and Filemón, Hellboy, La Noria shortfilm… Currently, she´s working as Lead CFX in Skydance Animation.
